Supervisor: Middle/High School Dean
Overview:
A Middle/High School Spanish Teacher at Harvester Christian Academy is dedicated to providing a Christ-centered, immersive language education that prepares students to become culturally aware communicators and lifelong learners. This teacher integrates biblical principles throughout instruction and fosters a classroom environment where students are supported, challenged, and spiritually nurtured.
Core Responsibilities:
Spiritual Leadership and Role Modeling
Demonstrate Christian values in daily interactions with students, staff, and parents.
Actively participate in a local church and support students in developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Lead students spiritually, incorporating prayer, scripture, and Christian perspectives in lessons and activities.
Academic Instruction and Curriculum Development
Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in Spanish I, II, III, and possibly upper-level courses such as Spanish IV or AP Spanish.
Design lessons that incorporate reading, writing, speaking, and listening in Spanish.
Integrate biblical worldview and Christian cultural perspectives into language and cultural instruction.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and accommodate different learning styles
Student Engagement and Classroom Management
Maintain effective classroom management by setting clear expectations, routines, and consequences aligned with Christian values.
Cultivate a safe space where students feel encouraged to ask questions, express ideas, and grow academically and personally.
Assessment and Academic Support
Administer formative and summative assessments to measure student progress in language proficiency.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to help students grow academically and linguistically.
Use data to differentiate instruction and offer additional support or enrichment when needed.
Communication and Collaboration
Maintain open, proactive communication with students, parents, and colleagues about academic progress, behavioral expectations, and school activities.
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create an integrated, cohesive academic experience for students.
Attend staff meetings, school events, and professional development opportunities to contribute to the school community and grow professionally.
Student Guidance and Mentorship
Build positive relationships with students, guiding them in their spiritual, social, and emotional growth.
Serve as a mentor and counselor, supporting students through challenges and helping them set personal and academic goals.
Supervise students during school hours, including non-instructional duties, to ensure safety and uphold school policies.
Professional Development and Growth
Engage in continuous learning and professional development to stay current in teaching practices, subject knowledge, and Christian pedagogy.
Maintain certifications as required by the school or accrediting body, such as the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
Actively seek feedback and self-reflect to improve teaching effectiveness and student outcomes.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Spanish Education, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred for upper-level courses.
Certification: State certification or Christian school certification (e.g., ACSI) preferred.
Experience: Prior experience teaching middle and/or high school Spanish. Experience in a Christian school is a plus.
Faith Commitment: A committed Christian actively involved in a local church and living a lifestyle consistent with biblical teaching.
