POSITION SUMMARY
A middle grades math teacher is responsible for developing and delivering engaging mathematics instruction aligned to state standards, managing the classroom environment, assessing student learning, and fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere to support students’ academic and personal development.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Must be eligible for a valid Georgia teaching certificate with certification in Middle Grades Mathematics (4-8). Previous teaching experience in the mathematics classroom is preferred.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet Georgia’s Mathematics Standards of Excellence and align with the district’s approved curriculum.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to accommodate students’ diverse learning needs, backgrounds, and interests.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures to maintain an orderly and respectful classroom environment.
- Deliver engaging and interactive math lessons and activities that build conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and procedural fluency.
- Assess students’ understanding and mastery of math content through various methods, including quizzes, tests, performance tasks, projects, and observations.
- Provide targeted support and differentiation for students, including those with special needs, advanced learners, and English language learners.
- Integrate instructional technology and digital tools to enhance math instruction and student engagement.
- Foster critical thinking, a growth mindset, and a positive attitude toward math by encouraging perseverance and mathematical discourse.
- Maintain open communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, strengths, and areas of improvement.
- Participate in professional learning opportunities to stay current with math pedagogy, standards, and evidence-based practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues, instructional leaders, and school staff to support student learning and participate in school-wide initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, state regulations, and federal laws. Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and documentation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Students, paraprofessionals, and volunteers.

- Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
- Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
- Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
- Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Must perform routine physical activities such as bending, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
