Middle and Lower School Spanish Teacher

Supervisors: Middle School Division Director or Lower School Division Director

Classification: Exempt, 10-Month

Start date: August 22, 2025

Loudoun Country Day School (LCDS) is looking for an enthusiastic, talented educator to join our team as Spanish teacher in 4th - 6th grade for the 2025-2026 Academic year.

This is a 30 hour position with benefits. The individual hired will teach 2 sections of 6th grade Spanish, as well as twice weekly Spanish classes to both 4th and 5th grade. They will also attend teacher workdays and meetings, and assume various duties commensurate with those of other LCDS specialty area teachers, including teaching/leading a homebase and clubs. bnm9,[b The school is also searching for some to be responsible for creating the school yearbook, which could possibly be added to the Spanish role if a candidate is interested in Full Time.

Description of Position:

The 4th - 6th grade Spanish Teacher will facilitate a vibrant, relevant, and appropriately challenging Spanish program for 4th- 6th grade learners. In the Lower School, the teachers will provide opportunities to acquire Spanish knowledge and skills in speaking, reading, writing, listening, and culture. The 6th grade curriculum is equivalent to the first half of High School Spanish I. The Teacher will be an essential member of the World Language team, collaborating with the other Middle School and Lower School/Early Years World Language teachers, administration, and lead and assistant teachers to create a dynamic, vertically aligned experience for LCDS students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Uphold the mission, philosophy, core values, and communication norms of the school
  • Deliver and continue to develop an intellectually challenging Spanish program informed by developmentally appropriate and research-based practices that engages students in active learning to develop cultural competency and spoken language for interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication
  • Teach in the target language as appropriate
  • Execute lessons using authentic literature, games, and other sound pedagogical practices for each grade level
  • Make every effort to be present each working day and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the Faculty Handbook
  • Assume responsibility for all work included in an LCDS time teaching assignment including progress reports and report cards, conferences and home/school communication, scheduling, duties, etc.
  • Use differentiated instruction and a social-emotional approach to student engagement
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and willingness to seek professional development opportunities
  • Connect and build positive relationships with students
  • Collaborate with the Spanish department to ensure vertical alignment from PS through 8th grade

Other Duties

  • Assume various duties commensurate with those of other LCDS teachers, these may include but not limited to, participation in the arrival and dismissal processes, supervision of student lunches, recess, and/or study halls, coordination of or attendance at field trips and other special events, and service on school committees
  • Attend all faculty meetings and "command performances" (such as, but not limited to, the Popsicle Party, Back to School Nights, Faculty Workdays, Professional Development Days, the Winter and Spring Concerts, Open Houses/Admission Events, Orientation Nights, VAIS Accreditation meetings, etc.)

Qualification Requirements
