We are seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer to design, build, and mature software systems supporting simulation, optimization, and decision support for mission-focused applications. You will help transform prototypes and advanced technical concepts into reliable, maintainable software used in operational and decision-support environments. The ideal candidate has a strong software-engineering foundation and experience developing production-quality applications in collaborative technical environments. You will work across backend development, APIs, integrations, and front-end capabilities while collaborating with researchers, engineers, and end users to turn complex technical concepts into practical mission solutions. This position will be performed full-time on-site in Reston, VA, including work within associated secure laboratory environments.

Minimum Qualifications

• Active Secret security clearance.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong foundation in object-oriented design and software development using Java and Rust; experience with C++ or a comparable programming language is also relevant.
• Experience creating backend software and/or APIs in collaborative production or prototype environments.
• Strong software-engineering fundamentals, sound technical judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, engineers, and end users.
• Ability to work full-time on-site in Reston, VA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience writing high-performance, multithreaded, parallel, or concurrent software.
• Experience developing software where readability, maintainability, testing, and disciplined engineering practices are emphasized.
• Experience in defense, national security, or other mission-driven environments.
• Experience with TypeScript and React or another modern front-end framework.
• Experience with 3D, geospatial, or high-performance visualization technologies such as WebGL or OpenGL.
• Experience with data-intensive or distributed systems, including databases, messaging systems, and asynchronous processing.
• Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled applications, including LLM-integrated systems.
• Experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
