Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a mid- to senior-level Tax Associate to join its transactional tax team within the Tax & Benefits practice. This position focuses on complex energy sector transactions, emphasizing renewable energy tax credit financings and M&A. The role involves advising energy industry stakeholders such as tax equity investors, lenders, utilities, and project developers. Ideal candidates will have experience in transactional tax law, partnership taxation, and energy project financing. The position offers firm-wide collaboration and direct client engagement, with opportunities across multiple major U.S. offices.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Advise on federal income tax issues related to renewable energy transactions, including tax equity financing, M&A, and structuring
  • Represent clients involved in solar, wind, carbon capture, and energy storage projects
  • Draft and review partnership agreements, tax opinions, and transaction documents
  • Provide guidance to utilities and unregulated affiliates on tax planning and compliance
  • Collaborate with cross-practice teams on transactional matters
  • Conduct tax research and analysis, presenting findings to clients and internal teams
  • Participate in business development, thought leadership, and industry conferences

Requirements:

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in transactional tax law
  • Experience in the energy industry, including renewable energy tax credits and project finance
  • Familiarity with tax equity structuring and partnership taxation
  • Ability to manage complex, deadline-driven projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong client service and interpersonal skills

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

  • Active license in good standing in the state of practice

Skills:

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Proficiency in analyzing federal income tax issues related to partnerships and corporate structures
  • Experience advising utilities and energy developers
