Job Overview:
A leading national law firm is seeking a mid- to senior-level Associate Attorney with 5 to 8 years of experience in transactional tax law to join its Tax & Benefits practice group. The role focuses on representing clients in the energy industry, particularly in matters involving renewable energy tax credits, tax equity financing, mergers and acquisitions, and partnership structuring. This position offers direct client contact, collaboration across offices, and the opportunity to participate in thought leadership activities. Multiple U.S. office locations are available.

Location:

Duties:

Represent clients in renewable energy tax credit transactions, including financing and M&A deals related to:

  • Solar and wind energy projects
  • Advise tax equity investors, lenders, utilities, project developers, and sponsors
  • Draft and negotiate partnership agreements and tax-related transaction documents
  • Provide tax structuring counsel to regulated utilities and affiliated entities
  • Prepare detailed tax opinions and analysis
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and collaborate with attorneys across practices
  • Engage in client-facing work and contribute to business development initiatives

Requirements:

  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in a transactional tax practice
  • Experience in renewable energy sector transactions and tax equity structuring
  • Proven ability to manage complex tax matters independently
  • Background advising on partnership tax issues and M&A structuring
  • Strong client communication and relationship-building skills

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

Active and in good standing with the Bar of the state in which the candidate practices

Skills:

  • Strong drafting skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with tax structuring for energy transactions
  • Experience working with regulated utilities and project sponsors
  • Strong academic background
  • Law firm experience preferred; large accounting firm experience will also be considered
