Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville is seeking a Mid-Shift Emergency Veterinary Technician to join the ER team in Knoxville, TN. This full-time role supports triage, stabilization, diagnostics, and intensive care in a true emergency setting, with opportunities for advanced skill development.

The position offers a mid swing shift (3pm-3am, 4pm-4am, or 5pm-5am) with a weekend day requirement, competitive hourly pay, and a comprehensive benefits package within the Innovetive Petcare

Qualifications

• 2+ years in Emergency, ICU, or high-volume General Practice.
• Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT) with ER or Specialty experience.
• Strong clinical and nursing skills under pressure; multitasking ability.

Responsibilities

• Assist with emergency triage, stabilization, and urgent interventions.
• Perform rapid patient assessments and initiate treatment protocols.
• Support emergency procedures including CPR, oxygen therapy, and shock management.
• Perform IV catheter placement, blood draws, radiographs, anesthesia induction and monitoring.
• Administer medications and assist with wound care, splinting, and surgical prep.
• Monitor ER patients and communicate with veterinarians; maintain detailed medical records.

Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville-part of the Innovetive Petcare network-is seeking exceptional Emergency Veterinary Technicians to join our ER team on a mid/swing shift. • Full-Time ER Position
• Multiple shifts available:
  • 3pm - 3am
  • 4pm - 4am

  • 2 weekdays & 1 weekend day REQUIRED

Key Responsibilities - Emergency Medicine

• Assist with emergency triage, stabilization, and urgent interventions
• Perform rapid patient assessments and initiate treatment protocols
• Support emergency procedures including CPR, oxygen therapy, and shock management

• Perform technical procedures including:
  • IV catheter placement
  • Blood draws and point-of-care diagnostics
  • Radiographs
  • Anesthesia induction and monitoring
• Administer medications via IV, IM, SQ, and oral routes
• Assist with wound care, splinting, and emergency surgical prep

• Monitor ER patients throughout treatment and recovery
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care in high-stress situations

• Support veterinarians with client updates and discharge education
• Maintain detailed, accurate medical records
• Ensure continuity of care during patient transfers to ICU or specialty services

• Work closely with ER doctors, ICU, and specialty teams
• Participate in case discussions and handoffs
• Contribute to a positive, solution-oriented ER culture

What We’re Looking For:

• • 2+ years of experience in Emergency, ICU, or high-volume General Practice
  • Strong technical and nursing skills in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective under pressure
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to patient advocacy and gold-standard care
• • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT)
  • Emergency or Specialty hospital experience
  • Interest in pursuing advanced training, licensure, or VTS (ECC)
• • Proficiency in emergency triage, stabilization, and monitoring
  • Strong anesthesia and procedural support skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in dynamic ER settings
  • Solid understanding of emergency pharmacology and protocols
• • Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Emotional resilience and adaptability in urgent care situations

Compensation & Comprehensive Benefits

• Competitive Pay:
  • $17.50-$24.00/hr based on experience
  • $25+/hr negotiable for actively Licensed Veterinary Technicians with relevant ER/Specialty experience

About Animal Emergency & Specialty Center - Knoxville

Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville is an AAHA Accredited, premier referral and emergency veterinary hospital. We have an emergency and critical care unit that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We have a variety of board-certified surgeons and specialists at AESC who treat a wide range of veterinary orthopedic, oncology, thoracic, abdominal, and soft-tissue conditions. Our team includes over 20 compassionate and highly trained Licensed Veterinary Technicians, numerous veterinary assistants, other support staff, and supportive administration.

We have the latest specialized surgery and diagnostic instrumentation and equipment including 16-slice CT scanner, Vivid iQ echocardiogram platform, digital radiology, ultrasound systems, fluoroscopy unity, endoscopy, high-def Storz tower with new laparoscopic equipment, Arthrex equipment, LigaSure, Autocon III, Storz Ho-YAG laser, Synthes locking plates, and ESF equipment.
