Highway Transport, a tanker trucking company with a long-standing family-owned background, is seeking Mechanics II to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on tractors and trailers in Knoxville, TN. The role emphasizes quality, safety, and effective communication with drivers and clients.

You'll join a team focused on keeping our fleet in top condition, supporting inventory control, and documenting maintenance actions.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write and speak English.
• Ability to learn troubleshooting procedures and failure analysis of all components.
• Basic troubleshooting and repair skills including electrical, suspension, HVAC, and tank repairs.
• Must possess necessary tooling (sockets/wrenches 1.25” and lower; air tools 1/2” drive and lower; voltmeter/test light).

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers.
• Assist other technicians with repairs and DOT inspections.
• Conduct brake inspections and repairs.
• Service air systems and brakes.
• Perform mid-senior level diagnostics and repairs on systems (suspension, drive train, HVAC, electrical, etc.).
• Lift and install heavy components (starters, clutches, brake drums).
• Ensure parts and labor are charged to the correct repair order.
• Maintain a safe, OSHA-compliant work area.
• Welding and light fabrication.
• Verify roadworthiness (licensing, registration).
• Use proper personal tools for maintenance tasks.
