Job summary

The US Oncology Network in Chicago, IL is seeking a MID Pharmacy Technician to join our full-time team. Under the supervision of a physician, you will provide in-office dispensing of oral drugs to oncology patients and manage related paperwork, inventory, and patient communications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three to five years of experience in a retail pharmacy setting.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board required.
  • Prior IV admixture training is a plus.
  • Possesses up-to-date knowledge of the profession and can access expert resources when needed.
  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies patient demographics, insurance information and prescription information.
  • Processes prescription and bills insurance for payment.
  • Reviews and signs paperwork.
  • Troubleshoots Medicare part B verification requirements.
  • Submits prior authorizations.
  • Checks for drugs interactions.
  • Assists with financial assistance for high-dollar oral drugs.
  • Tracks and reports monthly inventory in the retail system.
  • Ensures most cost-effective drugs are ordered from vendors.
  • Labels prescriptions and ensures provider sign-off.
  • Obtains patient signatures on medications dispensed.
  • Files and stores prescriptions and daily reports.
  • Documents all patient interactions in the EMR.

MID Pharmacy Technician

Full-Time
Monday-Friday
Hourly Rate $25-$27

Under the supervision of a physician, provide in-office dispensing of oral drugs to oncology patients. This includes technical aspects of oral medication dispensing, record keeping and inventory control as well as helping with financial assistance. Additional skills training will be provided for IV admixture preparation of chemotherapy agents.

Responsibilities
  • Verifies patient demographics, insurance information and prescription information
  • Processes prescription and bills insurance for payment
  • Review and sign paperwork
  • Troubleshoots Medicare part B verification requirements
  • Submits prior authorizations
  • Checks for drugs interactions
  • Applies for financial assistance through cancer foundations and co-pay assistance for high dollar oral drugs
  • Tracks and reports monthly inventory in retail computer
  • Ensures that the most cost effective drugs are ordered from vendors
  • Labels prescriptions and ensures they are checked correctly by providers
  • Ensures prescriptions and paperwork are being signed off on by a provider
  • Obtains patient's signature on all medications being dispensed
  • Files and stores prescriptions
  • Files and maintains daily reports
  • Documents all interactions with the patient in the EMR
Qualifications
