Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer in Sacramento, CA, to design electrical power systems for water and wastewater facilities, including low/high voltage distribution, lighting, UPS, and batteries. You will interact with project teams, prepare contract documents, and engage in field work to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

The role offers growth in managing electrical tasks/projects, mentoring staff, and collaborating across global teams.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Licensed PE in California or able to reciprocate.
  • 8–10 years of electrical engineering experience in water/wastewater or similar industry.
  • Proficient in design software and analysis tools listed above.
  • Experience with permitting reviews and NEC/NFPA 820 knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical power systems for water/wastewater facilities.
  • Prepare contract documents including plans, specs, and cost estimates.
  • Develop diagrams, load calculations, and coordination with utilities.
  • Perform power system studies and arc flash analysis.
  • Quality assurance of electrical plans, specs, and estimates.
  • Field visits and site investigations, construction support, and RFI responses.
  • Mentor junior staff and collaborate across multi-discipline teams.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
PE license (Registered California Professional Electrical Engineer)

Job Overview

As a Mid-Level Electrical Engineer based out of Sacramento, California, you will prepare detailed electrical power systems design for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump station rehabilitation, and greenfield projects with minimum supervision. You will work with project managers, design staff including electrical engineers, cost estimators, designers, drafters, and other engineering disciplines to provide quality work on schedule and within budget. We partner across the globe to create the best project outcomes by maximizing the design, digital technology, and support capabilities of our Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teammates. You will engage with these teams to deliver solutions to our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Designing of electrical systems for water and wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities
  • Preparing contract documents for plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects
  • Electrical systems include low- and medium-voltage power distribution, lighting, emergency power systems, UPS, and batteries
  • Applying knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering and design concepts, principles, best practices, codes, and guidelines related to electrical engineering industry
  • Engaging several different assignments simultaneously.
  • Developing basis of design report, One-Line Diagrams, Motor Control Diagrams, Panel Schedules, Conduit Routing, Load Calculations, and Voltage Drop Calculations as well coordinate with the Electric Utility Company for new services as needed.
  • Utilizing lighting software to perform calculations and provide photometrics.
  • Performing power system studies for electrical systems including load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash and competent in equipment sizing, grounding, and relay coordination.
  • Engaging in quality control and quality assurance of electrical engineering plans, specifications, and estimates in the water market
  • Performing field visits and conduct site investigations for public and private clients.
  • Providing services during construction including submittal reviews, response to Contractor’s request for information, review and approval of change orders, and preparation of record drawings.
  • Collaborating with multi-discipline teams across multiple office locations.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered California Professional Electrical Engineer (PE) with ability to reciprocate as needed
  • 8-10 years of experience in an electrical engineering role related to water, wastewater or similar industrial experience
  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Working knowledge of of AGi32 or Visual Lighting Software
  • Working knowledge of SKM or ETAP
  • Experience working with Permitting review agencies
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong understanding of NEC and NFPA 820
  • Familiarity with IEEE color book series
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively interface with all levels of personnel and management
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment
  • Ability to self‑motivate and work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in designing and delivering municipal water and wastewater treatment projects via different delivery methods (design‑bid‑build, design‑build, or other alternatives)
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam Revu
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Microstation
  • Knowledge of Revit MEP
  • Knowledge of Title 24 compliance for electrical distribution and lighting
  • Field investigative and startup experience

The base salary range for this position is $110,600.00 to $172,850.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
