Job Summary:
We are seeking a Mid-Level SQL Database Administrator / SQL DBA II to support database administration, development, maintenance, monitoring, and production operations across on-premises and cloud environments.
The SQL DBA will support standalone and clustered SQL Server environments, including database provisioning, troubleshooting, backup and recovery, patching, performance tuning, HA/DR, monitoring, and change implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Administer, configure, maintain, and monitor Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Support standalone SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments.
- Assist with SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching.
- Build and configure databases based on application requirements.
- Perform daily troubleshooting, error triage, system setup, and configuration.
- Execute and validate database backup, restoration, and recovery activities.
- Monitor database availability, storage, capacity, performance, and system health.
- Perform query analysis, index maintenance, execution-plan analysis, and performance tuning.
- Develop and maintain SQL scripts, stored procedures, database objects, and automation.
- Support HA/DR implementation, testing, failover, and recovery activities.
- Troubleshoot database, cluster, server, connectivity, and application issues.
- Manage incidents, service requests, and change requests using ServiceNow.
- Execute approved Requests for Change and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Resolve database-support tickets according to established service levels.
- Use Idera and SolarWinds for monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning.
- Participate in production-incident troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
- Maintain technical documentation, procedures, scripts, and runbooks.
- Work with senior DBAs, application teams, infrastructure teams, and business users.
- Prepare weekly reports covering support activities and accomplishments.
- Participate in periodically scheduled after-hours maintenance and production support.
Required Experience / Skills:
- Minimum 4 years of Microsoft SQL Server database-administration experience.
- Hands-on SQL Server administration and production-support experience.
- Experience supporting SQL Server Clustering.
- Experience with SQL scripting, stored procedures, and database automation.
- Experience with database installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching.
- Experience with backup, restoration, database recovery, and maintenance.
- Experience supporting HA/DR solutions.
- Experience with database monitoring, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Experience supporting on-premises or cloud database environments.
- Experience troubleshooting database, connectivity, server, and application issues.
- Experience with ServiceNow or a comparable IT service-management platform.
- Experience with Idera, SolarWinds, or comparable monitoring tools.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle Database, or MS Access.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work remotely and remain available through Microsoft Teams during assigned working hours.
Certifications: Good to Have
- Microsoft SQL Server certification.
- Microsoft Azure Database Administrator certification.
- Cloud-platform certification.
- PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or Oracle certification.
- ITIL or ServiceNow certification.
