Job summary

Tangram Flex is seeking Software Engineers with a minimum of 3 years experience to join our team in Dayton, Ohio. The role focuses on open mission systems integration, interoperability, and verification, requiring a strong technical skill set and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across the program lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will have experience with C/C++, Java, Python, or Rust, and possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent technical field.
• Minimum 3 years of software engineering experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance.
• Strong object-oriented design and programming with C, C++, Java, or similar languages.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of work time to client sites and conferences.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and document high-quality software in C/C++, Java, Python, or Rust.
• Analyze design approaches to improve efficiency, stability, and scalability of system resources.
• Build deep technical expertise in Tangram Flex products to support deployments and demonstrations.
• Support end-to-end system testing, performance analysis, and troubleshooting of integrated hardware/software setups.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

We’re looking for software engineers who pursue deep understanding of technical objectives, while being responsible for providing innovative, reliable solutions to a range of technical challenges, ensuring complete team and customer satisfaction. This role demands a strong technical skill set coupled with the ability to establish and nurture relationships with stakeholders throughout the entire program lifecycle.

Job Responsibilities

Software Development & System Optimization

• Design & Coding: Design, develop, test, and document high-quality software using relevant languages (C/C++, Java, Python, Rust).
• Resource Optimization: Analyze design approaches to improve the efficiency, stability, and scalability of system resources for new and existing products.
• Core Product Mastery: Build and maintain deep technical expertise in Tangram Flex products to support internal systems, customer deployments, and live demonstrations.

Integration, Testing & Agile Execution

• System Testing & Analysis: Support end-to-end system testing, performance analysis, and troubleshooting across integrated hardware/software setups.
• Agile Participation: Active participant in Agile SDLC events, including sprint planning, daily progress tracking, technical reviews, and integration events.

Client Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Engineering Collaboration: Partner closely with software, systems, and cross-functional teams to refine system requirements, design choices, and system characteristics.
• Technical Guidance & Support: Provide technical support and product guidance to customer engineers, resolving issues in line with company values and business goals.
• Stakeholder Communication: Translate customer requirements for internal teams (engineering, product, sales) and clearly articulate technical findings, project statuses, and demos to both technical and business audiences.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent technical field.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of software engineering experience collaborating effectively within high-functioning technical teams.
• Security Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required; must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
• Object-Oriented Design & Programming: Deep experience with C, C++, Java, or Object-Oriented Design principles.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of work time to client sites, customer locations, and industry conferences as required.
• Work Location based in Dayton, Ohio

Nice To Have Skills & Qualifications

• Languages & Infrastructure: Knowledge of or interest in Docker, Java, Go, Rust, Haskell, and network communications technology.
• Testing & Quality Assurance: Familiarity with modern software test approaches, including unit testing, static analysis, fuzz testing, and symbolic execution.
• Experience with communication & proposals; high level written and verbal communication skills to author or contribute to technical documentation, support proposal development, and present to external customers.
• Systems Integration & Domain Expertise:
  • Open Architectures & Standards: Understanding of or interest in DoD Open Architecture standards (e.g., OMS, FACE).
• Autonomous Systems & Simulation: Familiarity with UAV/autonomous systems, relevant messaging formats (e.g., MAVLink), and simulation frameworks (e.g., AFSIM).
• Embedded & Subsystem Integration: Hands-on experience integrating sub-system components, embedded systems, and toolchains like Simulink.
