Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Mid-Level Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator with hands-on production DBA experience in AWS EC2 and RDS for SQL Server. The role focuses on performance, availability, backups, and security for multiple user groups.

The position is remote with EST hours and on-call rotations; you will install, monitor, and harden SQL Server environments, support incident resolution, and collaborate with application teams to meet SLAs.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
• Minimum 5 years Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience including production support.
• Experience with SQL Server 2019/2022 and HA options.
• Experience with SQL Maintenance Plans, SQL Agent jobs, and Ola Hallengren's scripts.
• Experience with AWS cloud operations for EC2 and RDS databases.
• Experience with Terraform and CI/CD automation (GitLab, Liquibase).

Responsibilities

• Install SQL Server instances in Standalone, AG, and Windows Failover Clusters.
• Manage cloud hosting (AWS SQL Server RDS) and on-prem configurations.
• Develop, test, deploy security and audit solutions.
• Implement CIS and SCSEM hardening standards.
• Review NESSUS scans and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Schedule, monitor, and validate backups and restores.
• Monitor performance, availability, and capacity via Datadog.
• Apply upgrades, patches, and certificates.
• Follow best practices, processes, and checklists.
• Support application teams and participate in technical reviews.
• Develop and maintain database support documentation.
• Resolve complex incidents and engage SMEs as needed.
• Implement customer change requests.

Responsibilities

Peraton is looking to add a Mid-Level Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator with hands‑on experience as a production database administrator experienced in AWS EC2 and RDS for SQL Server. The qualified individual will be responsible for meeting service level agreements covering performance, availability, backups, and security for several user groups supporting those application.

Location: Remote

Shift Schedule: 8am - 5pm Eastern Standard Time (EST). This position will participate in 24x7 on‑call rotations for the production environment.

What you will do:

Install Microsoft SQL Server instances in various configurations:

• Standalone, Windows Failover Cluster, and Availability Groups
• Cloud hosting (AWS) including SQL Server RDS.
• Develop, test, deploy and maintain security and audit solutions.
• Implement Center for Internet Security (CIS) and Safeguard Computer Security Evaluation Matrix (SCSEM) hardening standards.
• Review NESSUS scans to remediate vulnerabilities and database compliance findings.
• Schedule, monitor, and validate database backups and restores.
• Responsible for monitoring metrics collection jobs for performance, availability, and capacity planning through Datadog.
• Schedule and apply DB upgrades, patches, and certificates.
• Follow best practices, work plans, checklists, and defined processes.
• Proactively support application teams as needed.
• Participate in project technical reviews. Lead work product reviews.
• Develop and maintain database support documentation.
• Responsible of complex database incidents and problems, providing resolutions in a timely manner.
• Engage SMEs or vendors to resolve more complex incidents as required.
• Implement customer database change requests.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust level clearance.
• Bachelors Degree and 5 years of experience, an Associates Degree and 7 years of experience, or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years of experience
• Minimum 5 years Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience including extensive production support required.
• Experienced in virtualizing Microsoft SQL Server 2019/2022 and Microsoft SQL Server High Availability options (replication - transactional or log shipping and Always On).
• Experience with SQL Maintenance Plans, SQL Agent jobs, and Ola Hallengren's Maintenance Solutions.
• Experience with MS Windows Security Domains, Networking, and Group Managed Service Accounts.
• Experienced in AWS cloud operations supporting databases on EC2 and RDS instances.
• Experience deploying and maintaining Cloud Native Databases leveraging Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD automation (GitLab and Liquibase)

Preferred qualifications:

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to independently work remote and collaborate effectively with team members.
• Experience with transact/SQL language and programming experience/knowledge is a plus.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
