Job summary

Washington, D.C. hybrid opportunity for an International Trade Associate Attorney (mid-level) with a prestigious AmLaw 50 international law firm. Focus on export controls, tariffs, customs law, and national security reviews, including CFIUS matters.

The candidate will join a collaborative team in the International Trade Practice. Required: JD from a top-tier law school, DC Bar admission in good standing, 2–3 years in international trade law, and Mandarin Chinese fluency.

Qualifications

• JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record.
• Active Bar Admission in the District of Columbia, in good standing.
• 2/3 years of substantive experience in international trade law.
• Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese required.
• Experience with BIS and DDTC, customs law, and OFAC preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on U.S. export controls, customs law, tariffs, sanctions, and CFIUS reviews.
• Assist clients with compliance by BIS, DDTC, CBP, and OFAC.
• Analyze customs matters involving entry, classification, valuation.
• Support matters under antidumping, countervailing duty, and safeguard laws.
• Conduct research and provide practical guidance on international trade issues.
• Draft memoranda, submissions, compliance materials, and client communications.
• Collaborate across practices on cross-border regulatory matters.
• Monitor regulatory developments and advise clients on potential impact.
