Job summary

THR Partners, a prestigious AmLaw 50 international law firm, seeks a Midlevel International Trade Associate Attorney in Washington, D.C. Hybrid work arrangement available.

The role focuses on U.S. export controls, tariffs, customs law, and national security reviews, including CFIUS matters. Ideal candidate has 2–3 years of relevant experience and Mandarin fluency, with strong research and writing skills.

Qualifications

• Top-tier law degree with excellent academic record.
• Active DC bar membership in good standing.
• 2–3 years’ experience in international trade law.
• Mandarin fluency (written and spoken) required.
• Experience in BIS and DDTC regimes.
• Knowledge of customs, classification, valuation.
• OFAC sanctions experience preferred.
• Exposure to trade remedy investigations a plus.
• Strong research, writing and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Advise clients on export controls, customs, tariffs, sanctions, and CFIUS.
• Assist with BIS, DDTC, CBP, and OFAC compliance.
• Analyze customs matters: entry, classification, valuation.
• Support antidumping, countervailing duty, and safeguards matters.
• Conduct legal/regulatory research and provide practical guidance.
• Draft memoranda, submissions, compliance materials, and client communications.
• Collaborate with cross-practice teams on complex cross-border matters.
• Monitor regulatory developments and advise on impact.
