Job summary

Culmen International, LLC is seeking a Mid-Level Exploitation Specialist/Data Scientist (TS/SCI eligible) to join our Washington operations at Joint Base Lewis‑McChord. You will coordinate with clients, design data‑driven solutions, and support defense and intelligence missions.

Key duties include building analytics dashboards, applying big data techniques, mentoring teammates, and delivering insights to decision-makers while maintaining rigorous security standards.

Qualifications

  • TS/SCI clearance with CI/Poly eligibility.
  • 9+ years in data science, automation, software development, data engineering, GEOINT support, or related disciplines.
  • Experience supporting IC operations and providing analysis or data science to an intelligence mission.
  • Ability to operate independently as a mid-level professional.
  • Proficiency in Python and its data-science ecosystem (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Plotly, Dash, Bokeh, etc.).
  • Experience querying and integrating web APIs through Python to retrieve, normalize, and operationalize data.
  • Experience developing interactive data visualizations using Plotly, Seaborn, Matplotlib, Bokeh, or comparable tools.
  • Experience building dashboards and analytic interfaces using Dash, Streamlit, Panel, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience querying relational databases.
  • Experience with Git-based version control such as GitLab or GitHub.
  • Proficiency with geospatial processing frameworks such as GDAL or ArcPy.
  • Proficiency with GIS desktop software such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS.
  • Ability to write clear, concise technical documentation related to software systems and automated workflows.
  • Ability to operate independently at a senior level with limited oversight.
  • Familiarity with USSOCOM and broader U.S. military organizational structures.
  • Familiarity with common IC data repositories.
  • Demonstrated experience connecting multiple databases and enterprise systems to automate data collection, transformation, and dissemination.
  • Experience automating repetitive business or analytic tasks using scripts and workflows.
  • Experience gathering and disseminating metrics and operational data.
  • Ability to identify process inefficiencies and implement automation solutions that improve workflow performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, explaining technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

What You’ll Do

As a Data Scientist, you will coordinate with clients to understand data questions, develop data‑driven solutions, automate processes, design data science solutions, and conduct analysis to support defense and intelligence missions.

  • Work with large structured and unstructured data in a modeling and analytical environment to define and create streamlined processes for evaluating unique datasets.
  • Lead and participate in the design of solutions and refinement of pre‑existing processes.
  • Work with Customer Stakeholders, Program Managers, and Product Owners to translate road‑map features into components, estimate timelines, identify resources, suggest solutions, and recognize possible risks.
  • Use exploratory data analysis techniques to identify meaningful relationships, patterns, or trends from complex data.
  • Combine applied mathematics, programming skills, and analysis to provide impactful insights for decision‑makers.
  • Research and implement optimization models, strategies, and methods to inform data‑management activities and analysis.
  • Apply big‑data analytic tools to large, diverse sets of data to deliver insights and assessments.
  • Conduct peer reviews to improve the quality of workflows, procedures, and methodologies.
  • Help build high‑performing teams; mentor team members to increase their technical skills.
Required Qualifications
  • TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain a CI/Poly.
  • 9+ years of experience in data science, automation, software development, data engineering, database integration, GEOINT support, or related technical disciplines; education and certifications may substitute some experience.
  • Experience supporting IC operations and providing analysis or data science to an intelligence mission.
  • Ability to operate independently as a mid‑level professional.

Must Support Knowledge Areas
  • Understanding of Transnational Criminal Organizations operating within the USSOUTHCOM AOR.
  • Understanding of coca cultivation and production areas and familiarity with ICD‑203 and ICD‑206.
  • Understanding of how to operationalize analytic output, shaping it to support operational planning.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Data Science or related technical field.
  • Experience developing and working with AI/ML technologies.
  • Advanced programming experience in HTML5/JavaScript, ArcObjects, Python, Model Builder, Oracle, SQL, GIScience, spatial analysis, statistics, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, ArcIMS.
  • Experience using .NET, Python, C++, or Java for web interface and geodatabase development.
  • Experience building and maintaining databases of GEOINT, SIGINT, or OSINT data related to the area of interest.
  • Data visualization experience including matrix analytics, network analytics, graphing data that supports operational pictures for intelligence analysis.
