Job summary

WSP in the U.S. is seeking a Mid-Level Construction Materials Technician in Phoenix, AZ, to perform field and laboratory tests on soil, asphalt, and concrete to support engineering analyses.

You will collect samples, prepare data, and generate reports while following procedures and safety standards. Travel may be required; candidates with 5+ years of material testing experience and a valid driver's license are preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Construction Materials Testing experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to use laboratory test equipment safely.
  • Ability to understand procedure manuals and execute work orders.
  • Ability to prepare reports and documentation.
  • Ability to follow directions and have attention to detail.
  • May require the ability to lift and carry soil, asphalt and concrete samples and use a wheelbarrow.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Use of a WSP Fleet Vehicle(s) in the performance of duties; candidates must be at least 21 years old and eligible for coverage under WSP’s fleet policy.
  • Must pass background check and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.
  • Maintain required ACI and ATTI certifications to perform appropriate inspections.
  • ACI Certification.
  • ATTI Certification.
  • Soil or asphalt nuclear density testing experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of materials testing and a project focus.
  • Understanding of applicable ASTM, AASHTO and ADOT Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a valued member of our team and conduct tests and investigations in the field or laboratory to obtain data used by engineering and technical personnel in determining physical properties of construction materials.
  • Demonstrate integrity in all testing and reporting activities ensuring accuracy, transparency and accountability in results.
  • Perform field and laboratory tests according to prescribed procedures, processes and standards.
  • Collect soil, asphalt and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary report.
  • Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports and/or technical drawings.
  • Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment.
  • Maintain results log.
  • Enter data and use spreadsheet computer programs.
  • Confer with Engineers and Scientific staff on test and design efforts.
  • Set up, maintain and calibrate equipment.
  • May require some lifting and carrying.
  • Field assignments may require travel and work to be performed on site under a variety of environmental and climatic conditions for extended periods of time; approximately 15% overnight travel.
