Role Description:

Do you enjoy working outdoors? Do you enjoy work that benefits the community by making the world a greener place? Join our dynamic team of Engineers and Arborists as we work together to improve the green infrastructure of New York City (NYC)! Arcadis is seeking to hire a Mid level Arborist to join our team to work on projects for NYC Parks within the five boroughs of NYC. This position will be expected to work full-time as well as overtime as needed.

This position will utilize your technical knowledge and experience to help guide the City’s tree preservation Level 2 Matrix and street tree programs. As you grow with Arcadis, you will become involved with other NYC Parks’ programs, and with other City agencies, all with a focus on the City’s urban forest and other natural systems such as the Staten Island Bluebelt and park restoration projects.

As a Mid-Level Arborist, you will play a key role in the stewardship and management of the urban forest. You will ensure high standards of arboricultural practice, provide mentorship to junior staff, and support the City’s sustainability and biodiversity goals.

Please note that having a personal vehicle for this role is strongly encouraged.

Role accountabilities:

You will act as an ambassador for the City’s urban forest, fostering positive relationships with residents, contractors, and other City agencies.

Technical Oversight

This role will have a lot of interaction with contractors and you will be a point person to monitor contractor compliance with technical requirements, project specifications, and safety standards. As a leader, you will evaluate contractor responsiveness and effectiveness, escalating issues as necessary. Your expertise will also be used to identify native and invasive plant species, contributing to biodiversity management strategies.

Health & Safety

Health and Safety is extremely important to us at Arcadis and you will administer and enforce all Health & Safety (H&S) procedures as outlined in the owner’s H&S manual; this includes proactively identifying and mitigating site hazards, promoting a culture of safety among all personnel.

Field Management

As a leader, you will take charge and participate in field meetings with contractors and owners to discuss project progress, scheduling, and outstanding work; this includes providing technical guidance to junior arborists and inspection teams.

Administrative and Program Support

Lastly, you will be required to support program operations through timely and accurate administrative tasks, including documentation, scheduling, and coordination.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting design plans, specifications, and shop drawing submittals.
  • Strong attention to detail with a solid work ethic and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including dispute resolution and conflict management.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required by project demands.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and best practices in arboriculture.
