Job summary

KLN Family Brands is hiring a Mid Shift Assistant Mill Operator (Inside) to support the Mill Room in Perham, MN. The role involves unloading ingredients, batching, mixing, grinding, and maintaining safety and quality standards.

You will report to the Mill Supervisor and work 2pm–10pm, Monday through Friday. Responsibilities include handling 50# bags, weighing micro ingredients, coordinating with the Mill Operator, and assisting with inventory and monthly tasks.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and understand English.
• General mathematical ability and basic computer skills.
• Ability to learn, memorize and execute procedures in sequence.
• Willing to fill in on other shifts as required by supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Unload raw ingredients and assist Mill Room Operator with batching, mixing and grinding.
• Set unloading system to proper bin; verify settings with Mill Operator.
• Weigh micro ingredients and load into batch; hand stack bags as needed.
• Deliver bagged ingredients via forklift; inspect Rotex and magnets; assist inventories.
• Train new departmental employees.

Salary Range: $20.96 To $22.74 Hourly

Assistant Mill Operator (Inside) – Tuffy’s Pet Foods

Hours: 2pm-10pm M-F

Compensation:

• All in hourly compensation: $20.96/hr to 22.74/hr
  • Base Pay: $20.96/hr to 22.74/hr (Base Pay is solely dependent on start date and position you transfer from)
  • 6% Shift Differential for Mid Shift: $1.26/hr
• Profit Sharing Eligibility: Begins after completing 1 year of employment ($7.7 Million in Profits Paid to Profit Sharing Pool in 2025)

The Opportunity

We’re now hiring a Mid Shift Assistant Mill Operator to unload raw ingredients and assist Mill Room Operator in the batching, mixing and grinding feed following all quality and safety requirements set forth in company policies. This position will report to the Mill Supervisor.

• Set the unloading system to the proper bin that will hold the incoming ingredient. All settings must be double checked and verified by the Mill Operator.
• Hand stack 50# bags of minor ingredients around the mixers for dumping into the batch.
• Weigh micro ingredients that need to be added to the batch.
• Double check with Mill Operator when setting grinding or blow back bins.
• Must observe and understand Mill Operator position to be able to step if needed.
• Daily coordination of receiving trucks from storage lot.
• Daily cleaning of Mill and driveway area.
• Deliver bagged ingredients via forklift from the warehouse to the driveway to dump major hand add bagged products into the unloading pits.
• Weekly inspection of Rotex and leg magnets. Assist with monthly and semi-annual inventories.
• Train new departmental employees.

Qualifications

• Must not be afraid of heights or manlift, ability to climb 150 feet
• General mathematical ability and basic computer skills
• Learning, memorizing and executing a sequence of procedures
• Must be able to read, speak, write and understand English
• Willing and able to get along with others. Be willing to fill in on other shifts as required by supervisor.
• Good judgment, communication skills and reasoning abilities.
• Ability to drive forklift and pass certification exam
• Ability to handle weights of up to 100lbs and 50lbs on a routine basis
