Overview

MicroStrategy Architect is responsible for the artifacts and architecture that are required to support the overall Business Intelligence solutions. Works to understand business needs, rules and technical requirements. Demonstrates well-developed technical and business intelligence leadership, developing trusted relationships with users and providing technical oversight to internal and external teams. Demonstrates deep experience and highly effective communication skills to provide critical and constructive guidance, influencing users to move towards a better usage of MicroStrategy for successful data consumption.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Evaluates functional and technical business requirements; transforms those requirements into MicroStrategy solutions that efficiently enable expected application, reporting and analytic capabilities to support strategic initiatives
  • Analyzes, documents and promotes standards and patterns that represent the established reporting, analysis and deep analytics architectural goals
  • Provides thought leadership and hands-on involvement in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of MicroStrategy design artifacts
  • Develops extensible/sustainable reporting solutions based on defined business needs
  • Designs and constructs dimensional, logical, and physical models in collaboration with Data Architect and Data Engineers; provides MicroStrategy expertise for the development of drilling, aggregation and partitioning strategies
  • Designs ETL/ELT solutions in collaboration with Data Engineers
  • Creates, modifies and optimizes advanced SQL code including, but not limited to, subqueries, CTEs and temporary tables
  • Mentors MicroStrategy developers, including but not limited to, the functionality and best practices for dashboard and report development
  • Optimizes existing MicroStrategy infrastructure with a focus on usability, performance, long-term, flexibility and standardization
  • Conducts validation of existing reporting and new solutions to ensure continuous accuracy and front end ease-of-use
  • Analyzes short term reporting requirements to architect appealing, usable long term dashboard and reporting solutions; develop solutions
  • Recommends and coordinates regular maintenance and upgrade activities
  • Assists employees, vendors or other customers by answering questions related to MicroStrategy Architectural (or Business Rules) processes, procedures and services
Qualifications
  • This position requires a minimum of five years MicroStrategy architecture experience.
  • Proven experience of the MicroStrategy product suite, ETL and databases is required
  • In-depth experience of MicroStrategy functionality including administration, architecture and development skills is required
  • Proven experience with Object Manager, Enterprise Manager, Command Manager, System Manager and Integrity Manager
  • In-depth knowledge of object management and change control is required
  • Advanced understanding of core business intelligence, including, but not limited to, BI/DW, RDBMS is required
  • Strong SQL knowledge is required
  • Query Optimization techniques to facilitate high-performance BI is preferred
  • Clear understanding of MicroStrategy Governance practices is required
  • Agile experience is a plus
  • Proven experience of the Software Development and Testing Life Cycle is required
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of the organization is necessary; ability to clearly articulate technical ideas to a non-technical audience both verbally and in writing is required
