Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Purview Data Security Engineer to design, implement, and configure Microsoft Purview data security and information protection capabilities from the ground up.

This role will focus on establishing Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies, data classification standards, sensitivity labeling, and information protection controls to safeguard sensitive organizational data.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience independently implementing Microsoft Purview in an environment where these capabilities did not previously exist. This is a hands‑on engineering role requiring strong technical expertise in Microsoft 365 security, compliance, and data protection.

• Design, configure, and implement Microsoft Purview data security and information protection capabilities from the ground up.


• Develop, deploy, and manage Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies to prevent unauthorized access, sharing, and exposure of sensitive information.


• Establish data classification frameworks, sensitivity labels, and automated labeling policies.


• Configure Microsoft Purview Information Protection and DLP capabilities across Microsoft 365 environments.


• Identify and classify sensitive organizational data and implement appropriate protection controls.


• Develop DLP rules, alerts, policy exceptions, and enforcement mechanisms.


• Test, troubleshoot, and optimize DLP policies to minimize false positives and ensure effective data protection.


• Collaborate with cybersecurity, infrastructure, and IT teams to establish data security standards and best practices.


• Monitor policy effectiveness and recommend improvements to strengthen the organization's data security posture.


• Create technical documentation, implementation procedures, and operational guidelines for ongoing support and administration.

• Proven hands‑on experience implementing and configuring Microsoft Purview.


• Strong experience designing, deploying, and managing Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies.


• Experience implementing sensitivity labeling, data classification, and Microsoft Information Protection.


• Demonstrated ability to build and deploy Microsoft Purview data security capabilities from scratch.


• Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 security and compliance features, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.


• Experience identifying sensitive information types and implementing appropriate data protection policies.


• Knowledge of data governance, information security, and regulatory compliance requirements.


• Ability to troubleshoot DLP policies, sensitivity labeling configurations, and information protection issues.


• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, documentation, and communication skills.


• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross‑functional technical teams.

• Experience leading end-to-end Microsoft Purview implementations in enterprise or government environments.


• Experience developing automated data classification and sensitivity labeling policies.


• Familiarity with Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 compliance administration.


• Experience with Microsoft Purview audit, reporting, and compliance monitoring capabilities.


• Microsoft security or compliance certifications.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on Microsoft Purview engineer who has successfully designed and implemented DLP, data classification, and sensitivity labeling solutions in an organization starting from zero.

Candidates who have primarily maintained existing Purview environments or focused exclusively on data governance and cataloging without hands‑on DLP implementation experience may not be the best fit.

The primary objective of this role is to establish a functional, scalable Microsoft Purview data protection environment that can be effectively managed and maintained moving forward.
