The primary responsibilities of the Microscopy Lab Education Coordinator include:

Teaching and Supervision:

  • Lab Classes: Teach lab classes for courses, specifically TMS211 labs and PCC302/304 labs, other labs where needed. This involves preparing the labs ensuring available supplies and equipment prior to labs based on lesson plans, conducting lab sessions, support in evaluating student performance, and provide support to adjust and improve lessons plans.
  • Supervision: Supervise Teaching Assistants (TAs) involved in these lab classes. Provide guidance, support, and feedback to ensure the smooth running of lab sessions and adherence to academic standards.
  • Lab Preparation: Prepare labs for the lab classes, which includes setting up equipment, preparing materials, and ensuring all necessary resources are available for effective teaching and learning.

Managing Lab equipment:
Managing lab equipment for research support, external services and teaching, including clear communications with stakeholders on availability, timing and cost. Being service oriented to the stakeholders and customers to provide clarity on budgeting, timelines, reporting and after-care to all stakeholders.

Training and Scheduling:
Oversee the daily operations of the microscopy lab and the weatherometer. This includes scheduling lab sessions, ensuring equipment is properly used and maintained, and providing training to students and staff on the use of lab equipment and protocols.

Broader program support:

Assist with preparations for recruiting events such as open houses, summer camps and recruiting and outreach activities. This may involve setting up displays, preparing new activities for camps and visits, providing basic instruction to supervisors and/or participants, providing information to prospective students, and supporting the overall organization of the event.

Other Responsibilities

Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

  • Master’s degree in Textile Chemistry or related field

  • Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
