JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary: The Microbiology Lab Technician I will perform both routine analysis and a range of food microbiology assignments and responsibilities within the lab and production environments.

Essential Functions:

  • Collect product and environmental samples and perform routine analyses while utilizing Good Laboratory Practices (GLP’s) and identifying microbiological food safety issues and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Work with Microbiology Lab Technician II and/or Lab Management on an ongoing basis to help maintain or improve the level of safety within the microbiology lab.


Required Qualifications:

  • HACCP certified or be willing to complete HACCP certification within 1 year.
  • Complete the lab training checklist in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work with Microbiology Technician II and/or Lab Management and prioritize work appropriately.
  • Occasional Saturday work may be required and must be flexible in switching days and/or shifts as needed to accommodate testing needs.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Regulatory compliance knowledge, including USDA regulations, HACCP, GMP.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the food industry specifically with breaded chicken products.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and support other departments in a team-oriented environment.


Supervisory Responsibility: This position will report to the Microbiology Lab Supervisor and Microbiology Lab Management.


Work Environment: This job operates in both the laboratory and office environment, with periodic time spent on a refrigerated manufacturing production floor. This position will at times work in areas of high noise and varied temperatures (warm to cold). Slippery floors, moving equipment, and dust may be present. Personal protective equipment will be worn as necessary or required.


Physical Demands: Position will include extensive standing at times, sitting, lifting, wearing factory-required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds, and driving.

Position Type: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Some Saturday work may be required.
