Job summary

UAB Medicine's microbiology laboratory at UAB Hospital seeks a lab assistant to support the preparation, distribution, cataloging, and storage of specimens for testing in a high-volume infectious disease environment.

You will collaborate with lab staff, pathologists, and infectious disease providers, follow identification policies, utilize hospital information systems, and perform general administrative tasks to keep operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association may be required or obtained within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, distribute, catalog, and store lab specimens for testing.
• Adhere to departmental specimen identification policies and quality controls.
• Utilize lab and hospital information systems and provide general administrative support such as filing, record maintenance, responding to client calls, and mail delivery.

Education
