Interpath Laboratory, Inc is seeking a part-time Laboratory Assistant in Omaha to support diagnostic testing through specimen processing and hands-on laboratory duties. You will assist MLSs/MLTs, operate instruments, and help with QA while upholding patient confidentiality.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist MLSs/MLTs with specimen processing and preparatory tasks.
  • Operate automated instruments and electronic systems; perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain documentation and protect patient confidentiality per HIPAA.
  • Follow lab safety and infection control procedures.

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting diagnostic testing through accurate specimen processing and hands‑on laboratory support. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and is eager to gain practical laboratory experience while contributing to patient care.

Schedule & Compensation
  • Part-time: Monday - Friday, 4:00 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Weekends: Eventual participation in a rotating weekend schedule
  • Compensation: Based on experience and qualifications

Responsibilities
  • Assist Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLSs) and Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) with laboratory activities, including specimen processing, sample plating, and other preparatory procedures
  • Operate automated instruments, electronic systems, and precision tools, and perform basic troubleshooting as needed
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation, answer phones professionally, and protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements
  • Follow established laboratory safety and infection control procedures
  • Perform additional duties as operational needs evolve, with opportunities to gain laboratory experience and develop new skills
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods
  • Fine motor skills and hand‑eye coordination necessary to handle laboratory instruments, pipettes, small objects, and specimens with precision
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to read and interpret information, accurately identify specimens, and communicate clearly in person and by phone
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to access equipment and supplies
OSHA Category:

This position involves occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues. Employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis‑B vaccination series.
