Microbiology Supervisor

This position can be 12PM-830PM shift or 3PM-1130 PM.


Entry level rate is $43.00 and increases with experience.


Summary: Under the general direction of the Laboratory Managers and Medical Director, is responsible for staff orientation, training, competency assessment, and daily supervision of work activities of personnel.


Essential Functions


  • Provides daily supervision of technical, clerical, and service employees.

  • Plans, organizes, delineates, and schedules duties and responsibilities of laboratory staff in conjunction with the Laboratory Managers.

  • Assists other technologists as needed with technical problems and interpretation of results.

  • Determines the priority of work at the laboratory, assuring the timely completion of work.

  • Is responsible for ordering and maintaining an appropriate level of inventory and laboratory supplies.

  • Maintains manuals on all Standard Operating Procedures and required records and reports.

  • Responsible for ensuring staff adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for orientation, training, and competency assessments, assuring staff: Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.

  • Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.

  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.

  • Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.

  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.

  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.


Qualifications


  • EducationBachelor's Degree Medical Technology required or Bachelor's Degree Laboratory Sciences required and Other Certificate/Diploma Clinical Laboratory Sciences required

  • Licenses and CredentialsMedical Technologist (ASCP) [MLT, MT, MLA, Histologists] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) required

  • Experiencelab experience 3-5 years required and Supervisory experience 1-2 years preferred

  • Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThe knowledge, both practical and theoretical, of tests and procedures necessary to review findings and advise and direct subordinates in action.
