Job description

Position Purpose

Part of the Quality Control department, evaluating raw materials, supplies, and finished products to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices. Provides support to operations and manufacturing to ensure safe and effective product release.

Essential Functions and Duties

The Microbiologist II performs microbiological testing, analysis, and ensures data integrity in accordance with internal procedures and methods.

Testing & Analysis
  • Conduct routine testing of water, bulk chemicals, drug products, and finished products; assess results per test methods and instructions.
  • Perform method suitability testing on finished products; document and report results.
  • Sample and test water, environmental air, and surfaces; report, analyze, and trend data.
  • Conduct aseptic sampling for compressed air and cleaning processes.
  • Identify microorganisms and prepare media for microbiological testing.
  • Perform growth promotion testing on media.
  • Sample raw materials and finished products aseptically for microbial testing.
  • Assist in calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Train and oversee technicians and microbiologists; review data ensuring ALCOA principles are applied.
  • Collaborate with third-party labs for testing and results processing.
  • Support LIMS and microbiology-related projects.
  • Write investigation reports, non-conformance evaluations, and root cause analyses.
  • Update SOPs to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain compliance with cGMP, cleanliness, and data integrity standards.
  • Prepare samples for external microbiological testing.
  • Perform other assigned activities.

Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related science from an accredited institution.
Required Knowledge
  • Understanding of cGMP and FDA regulations.
  • Knowledge of traditional microbiology techniques.
  • Familiarity with USP chapters related to microbiology is a plus.
Experience
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in pharmaceutical microbiology or equivalent training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Ability to understand policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Good multitasking and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
Working Conditions
  • Extended periods of sitting, standing, walking; lifting up to 50 pounds; monitoring visual and auditory cues.
  • Potential exposure to toxic materials, gases, electrical hazards, and equipment.
  • Work performed in a laboratory environment requiring PPE use.
Salary Range
  • $60,000 - $70,000 annually plus bonus.
