Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of lab experience in virology/microbiology or assay development.
  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology or related field.
  • Experience with MSD, Luminex, ELISA, ELISpot or cellular assays.
  • Experience with human specimens and clinical data in a lab environment.
  • Strong documentation habits and attention to detail; ability to follow safety and quality practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform serological surveillance for respiratory viruses.
  • Contribute to development of new serological assays.
  • Perform advanced cellular immunological assessment of T and B cell responses.
  • Develop monoclonal antibodies for small-scale production.
  • Generate and characterize respiratory virus isolates.
  • Draft SOPs, worksheets, validation plans and reports.
  • Maintain laboratory records and assist audits.
  • Present work at national/international conferences.

Job description

Position Objective: Provide laboratory diagnostic, immunological/virological, and/or sequencing support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division (CORVD) respiratory virus work, including assay execution, documentation, and quality practices.Duties and Responsibilities:Perform serological surveillance for respiratory viruses and assessment of vaccine response in single plex or multiplex format.Contribute to the development of new serological assays for surveillance of and evaluation of vaccine response to respiratory viruses.Perform advanced cellular immunological assessment of the T cell and B cell response to respiratory virus infection and vaccination.Develop monoclonal antibodies against respiratory viruses for small scale production and assessment in serological assays.Generate and characterize respiratory virus isolates.Perform assays to characterize neutralizing antibodies against respiratory viruses.Contribute to organizational activities that promote laboratory safety, laboratory quality management systems (QMS), and effective specimen management.Assist in large study intake and specimen processing activities.Draft SOPS, worksheets, job aids, validation plans, and validation reports.Maintain medical clearance required for working in laboratory that may include respiratory fit testing.Attend weekly team meetings, and provide information on current activities.Prepare documentation and laboratories for internal and external audits.Maintain laboratory records.Write abstracts for presentations at national or international conferences.Present work at national or international conferences.Contribute to preparation and publication of peer reviewed manuscripts.Basic Qualifications:1-3 years of laboratory experience in virology/microbiology/assay development or related field (preferably public health)Bachelor's degree in microbiology or related fieldExperience in immunology and biomarker assay platform:-Meso Scale Discovery (MSD)-Luminex-Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)-Cellular Assays, such as cellular flow and Enzyme-linked ImmunoSpot (ELISpot).Experience working with human specimens and/or clinical data in a lab environmentStrong documentation habits and attention to detail (records, SOPs, validation documentation)Ability to follow laboratory safety and quality practices; support auditsAbility to obtain/maintain Public Trust suitability and comply with CDC policiesPreferred Qualifications:Experience with sequencing assays/platforms and high-throughput workflowsStrong scientific communication (manuscripts, figures, verbal presentation)Experience working with CDC staff at multiple organizational levels*This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required by this position.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
