Job summary

Fieldstone Bio is seeking a highly motivated Microbiologist to join our growing team in Woburn, MA. The role focuses on testing engineered microbial biosensors and developing assays to discern functional outputs in model and non‑model microorganisms.

You will work hands‑on in the lab alongside Synthetic Biology and AI Data teams, contributing to research strategies at an early‑stage biotech company.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Microbiology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or related field.
• 1+ years’ experience with assessment of engineered microorganisms.
• Hands-on experience with engineered microorganisms; non-model and soil-associated microbes preferred.
• Experience with microbial characterization.
• Assay development for microorganisms in non-model environments.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; outside‑the‑box thinking.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Versatile and flexible scientist in a fast‑paced, collaborative lab.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute cell‑based assays to screen for the function of engineered microbial strains
• Lead development and innovation of novel strategies for assessing microbial function in non‑traditional environments
• Collaborate with Synthetic Biology Team to assess lead engineered candidates in application‑relevant conditions
• Ensure timely delivery of goals for set milestones
• Document processes, results, and entity registration in an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) system
