Job summary

Crane Aerospace & Electronics, located in Danvers, MA, is seeking a Micro-Electronics Assembler to build prototype hardware and support engineers in developing critical aerospace and defense systems. Qualifications

  • 5+ years electronics assembly experience, preferably in R&D.
  • Knowledge of assembly techniques and ability to suggest process improvements.
  • Experience with wire harness assembly and reading prints/schematics.
  • Ability to Crimp/Wire/Term Solder and follow repair/rework procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and solder components under a microscope using SMT, thru-hole, and fine-gauge wire techniques per IPC‑610 or J‑STD‑001.
  • Read schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to perform complex assembly and test equipment builds.
  • Perform board-level rework, magnetics winding, wire/cable harness assembly, and modifications as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers to update drawings and processes; suggest improvements.
  • Monitor production team performance and participate in continuous improvement.

Micro-Electronics Assembler Job Summary:

As a Micro-Electronics Assembler, you’ll play a key hands‑on role in building the prototype hardware that powers Crane’s most advanced technologies. Your work directly influences product design, helps validate new concepts, and supports engineers developing solutions for critical aerospace and defense applications. This is a dynamic, technical role where no two days look the same - you'll assemble complex electronic units from the ground up, collaborate closely with engineering teams, and apply a wide range of specialized skills to bring early‑stage ideas to life. Micro-Electronics Assembler Essential Functions:
  • Assemble and soldering electronic components under a microscope using SMT, thru‑hole, and fine‑gauge wire techniques (28-36 AWG), including microscope‑assisted soldering (10-40x) in accordance with IPC‑610 or J‑STD‑001 standards.
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, technical drawings, and verbal engineering instructions to perform complex assembly, rework, and test‑equipment builds.
  • Perform board‑level rework, touch‑up, magnetics winding, wire/cable harness assembly, bonding, and modification or repair of units as required.
  • Work closely with engineers to update drawings, parts lists, and processes, and recommend improvements based on production observations.
  • Monitor work‑cell performance, participate in team meetings, and contribute ideas for continuous improvement of production processes.
  • Maintain flexibility to support operations, including performing difficult assembly tasks and working overtime when needed.
Non‑Essential Functions:
  • Assembly tasks include building holding apparatus (tooling jig), automated testing equipment (ATE) and manual test equipment
  • Assist engineer to redline drawing for release
Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: 5+ years of electronics assembly experience preferably in a research and development setting Knowledge: Knowledge of assembly techniques and recommend process improvements Skills/Abilities: Experience with wire harness assembly and print/schematic reading; Necessary communication skills to interact effectively with technicians, engineers, and other non‑manufacturing personnel; quality improvement process; Ability to Crimp/Wire/Term Solder; Ability to follow Repair/Rework Procedures Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent; Certificate in Soldering / Desoldering; Certificate in Circuit Board Modification Eligibility Requirement: This role requires access to U.S. export‑controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export‑controlled information from the U.S. Government. Additionally, as a U.S. Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Applicants selected could be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Hourly rate range: $31.00 to $39.00. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance‑based bonus programs.
