Utility Locate Technician
Utility Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities, including electric power lines, gas lines, and fiber optic lines (minimal). This position ensures compliance with client and state requirements. Service duties include observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utility locations. The technician will use multiple methods and may work independently or as part of a team under a supervisor. Ability to focus, skill, and use of tools are required. Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
- State‑issued driver’s license
- Ability to problem‑solve
- Ability to read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints
- Ability to lift over 50 lbs and walk/stand for multiple hours a day
- Excellent communication skills
- Pass a background screening (no violations within the last five years)
- Pass a DOT drug test
- Completed background check
Qualifications & Preferences
- Computer skills: 1 year (preferred)
- Utility locating experience: 1 year (preferred)
- Driver’s license (required)
Responsibilities
- Locate underground facilities using transmitter and other equipment
- Work in and walk over all types of terrain in construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas, in all weather conditions
- Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to route and perform duties efficiently
- Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locations during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as needed to meet customer requirements
- Perform all work in a timely, professional, and efficient manner while effectively communicating with customers, co‑employees, and third parties
- Communicate with management, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment
- Work with others and in a supervised team environment
