Job summary

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a highly skilled Manager to lead the Hydrodynamic Design Team. You will guide hydroacoustics, hydrodynamics, and CFD efforts for the next-generation submarine programs and Navy platforms.

Expect strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a focus on innovation and quality. The role requires a Bachelor's in engineering (ABET) with 6+ years of progressive technical experience; a Master's and related experience are highly valued.

The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager to lead our Hydrodynamic Design Team. As a strong team leader, you will have the opportunity to influence the design of the next generation fast attack submarine, as well as other Navy programs. You will be responsible for leading a team of specialty engineers who perform both R&D and engineering analysis and design for Hydroacoustics, Hydrodynamics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership: Assign and manage projects to ensure efficient execution, and provide guidance and direction to the team
  • Innovation: Encourage the team to develop solutions and processes that enhance efficiency and quality
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to foster the professional growth of the team, and help team members develop their skills and expertise
  • Budget Management: Manage the team’s budget, and ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Communication: Regularly communicate with the team, peers, management, and leaders across departments, including NAVSEA, to ensure that projects are well-coordinated and that stakeholders are informed.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Experience in Hydroacoustics, Hydrodynamics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is highly desirable. Coaching and mentoring experience is also preferred, as you will be responsible for guiding and supporting the professional growth of the team.
