Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Patient Care Assistant I (PCA) for day and night availability on a 24-hour schedule at 55 Fruit Street, Boston. The role includes rotating weekends and holidays and supporting a fast-paced orthopaedics/Oral Maxillofacial unit with autonomous work after training.

Responsibilities include assisting patients with daily activities, recording vital signs, phlebotomy, charting in the EMR, and collaborating with RNs and physicians.

Qualifications

• Ability to assist with activities of daily living and vital signs.
• Experience with EHR documentation and charting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and patient care documentation.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and assist with mobility.

• - Days: 7am - 7pm and Nights: 7pm - 7am
• - (2x) Shifts per week

White 6 is seeking a Patient Care Assistant I (PCA), with Day and Night availability, and to provide rotating weekend and holiday coverage.

White 6 is a 30-bed unit with the clinical specialty being orthopaedics and Oral Maxillofacial/Medical. The population of patients includes elective total joint replacement, trauma, and orthopedic oncology. Fast paced, exciting environment. Fast paced, exciting environment.

Preferably applicants that can work autonomously after training on days and nights and after start, can provide Day Shift (7am-3pm) training up to 40 hours.

Summary

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.

Essential Functions

• -Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required.
• -Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• -Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed.
• -Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change.
• -Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy.
• -Assists with admitting and discharging patients.
• -Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed.
• -Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively
• -Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition.
• -Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred

Experience
