The Café Assistant is responsible for coordinating cafe operations and volunteers to ensure the professional delivery of cafe meals. Responsible for purchasing food and supplies to guarantee meals are being prepared in compliance with Patty's Cafe Service standards, menus and approved budget. Oversees kitchen and ensures all health and safety requirements are met.

Principal Duties
  • Assists with daily café operations to ensure timely and safe meal cooking and service.
  • Supports basic food preparation under the direction of the Head Cook or program leadership.
  • Helps maintain kitchen cleanliness, including dishwashing, sanitizing surfaces, and organizing supplies.
  • Provides general support to volunteers and helps ensure they follow safety and service guidelines.
  • Monitors inventory levels and notify direct supervisor or leadership when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Ensures all health and safety requirements are followed in accordance with agency and county standards.
  • Represents the café in a positive and welcoming manner to clients, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • One (1) year of experience in food service or a related environment.
  • Food Service Manager Certification from the Fort Bend County or must be able to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications or must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
Skills Requirements
  • Knowledge in all areas of food safety and kitchen health requirements.
  • Experience working with food vendors to purchase food in compliance with agency budget.
  • Be enthusiastic in creating a friendly environment for center members and cafe volunteers.
  • Must be able to work as a team member by demonstrating teamwork and collaboration through effective communication, flexibility, dependability, punctuality and accountability of one's work within the program.
  • Must exhibit positive, supportive and cooperative behavior.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and ability to support essential tasks when other staff are absent.
