Job summary

Daniel Defense is seeking a Metrology Technician I to support quality and metrology operations on the shop floor in Ellabell, GA. You will work with CMMs, micrometers, calipers and other inspection tools to ensure part conformance and process capability.

You will participate in gage calibration, First Article Inspections, and support supplier quality activities while upholding safety and quality standards across the department.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of manufacturing or quality experience
  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, and gauging
  • Certified in GD&T principles and apply to CMM programs
  • Experience with metrology equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Strong communication and teamwork, with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate commitment to EH&S principles and policies.
  • Operate metrology equipment (CMM, Micro-Vu, Zeiss) and troubleshoot.
  • Assist in Gage R&R, First Article Inspections, and supplier quality inspections.
  • Perform capability studies and maintain gage calibration.
  • Investigate deviations and support corrective actions.
  • Participate in safety and quality toolbox meetings.
  • Maintain clean, organized work area and equipment.

As Metrology Technician I you will be responsible for the functions outlined below.

Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
  • Must be efficient with the use of various metrology equipment, including but not limited to CMM, Micro-Vu, and Zeiss.
  • Support all activities concerning the metrology equipment including troubleshooting, planned maintenance, annual certifications, repairs, upgrades, etc.
  • Assist in performing Gage R&R and First Article Inspections.
  • Assist Supplier Quality Engineers with inspection of new purchased parts.
  • Perform capability studies.
  • Assist in performing and maintaining gage calibration as required.
  • Assist in the investigation of deviations to aid supervisory personnel and management in undertaking corrective actions or recommendations.
  • Participate in weekly toolbox meetings on safety and quality issues.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of work area; Keep all quality equipment and work surfaces free of oil, grease, clutter, etc.
  • Participates in the company’s efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
  • Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Technical Certificate or Associates Degree with concentration in a technical field; 2-3 years of manufacturing experience or related quality experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to use inspection equipment including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, and various gauging.
  • Experience with PCDMIS, or other comparable CMM programming software.
  • Certified in GD&T principals. Must be able to apply principles to CMM programs ensuring accurate and proper measurement.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to handle open-ended problems with little supervision.
  • Prior experience in quality or inspection is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work, interact and effectively communicate with all company officials, employees, vendors, customers, etc.
  • Competent with computer software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook Word).
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and work in accordance with our Company Values.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
