Job summary

General Atomics Advanced Fabrication Technology in Torrey Pines seeks a Software Engineer with 5–10 years of experience and a strong background in dimensional metrology and CMMs. This role develops and supports software interfacing with CMM equipment in manufacturing, quality, and engineering environments, with predominantly onsite work (90%).

The position requires proficiency in C#, C++, Python, and experience with GD&T, databases, and data structures for measurement data; familiarity with QA

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years with a bachelor’s degree or 2+ years with a master’s degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with metrology and CMM equipment (operation, programming support, or data integration).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, C++, Python.
  • Experience with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and data structures for measurement/inspection data.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and its application to inspection and measurement.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams on shop floor and lab environments.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite at least 90% of the time at the Torrey Pines facility.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain software tools supporting metrology and CMM inspection workflows for advanced fabrication programs.
  • Integrate CMMs with internal systems (databases, MES, PLM, ERP) to streamline data collection and reporting.
  • Develop interfaces, scripts, and automation routines to improve CMM programming efficiency and inspection throughput.
  • Translate GD&T and inspection requirements into robust, repeatable software and measurement solutions with manufacturing and design engineering teams.
  • Develop automated reporting, dashboards, and data visualization tools for measurement data.
  • Troubleshoot software and system issues related to CMM operation and data transfer.
  • Participate in code reviews, configuration management, and documentation of software designs, test plans, and user instructions.
  • Support validation, verification, and testing of metrology software and CMM processes.
  • Provide technical support and training to engineers, technicians, and operators on metrology-related software tools and workflows.

General Atomics Advanced Fabrication Technology in Torrey Pines is seeking a Software Engineer with 5–10 years of experience and a strong background in dimensional metrology and coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). This role focuses on developing and supporting software solutions that interface with CMM equipment and metrology systems used in advanced fabrication, inspection, and production environments. The position is predominantly onsite (90%) to enable close collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams and hands-on work with metrology equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain software tools and applications that support metrology and CMM inspection workflows for advanced fabrication programs.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent experience.
  • Progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelors degree or two or more years of experience with a masters degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Hands‑on experience with metrology and CMM equipment (operation, programming support, or data integration).
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in engineering environments (such as C#, C++, Python, or similar).
  • Experience working with databases (SQL or NoSQL) and data structures for measurement/inspection data.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and how it applies to inspection and measurement.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work closely with cross‑functional teams on the shop floor and in lab environments.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite at least 90% of the time at the Torrey Pines facility.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CMM programming or CMM software environments (e.g., QUINDOS, PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar).
  • Direct experience programming in QUINDOS is a strong plus.
  • Experience automating inspection routines, macros, or scripting for CMMs.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with configuration management, version control (e.g., Git), and standard software development lifecycle practices.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of measurement data (e.g., GR&R, capability studies, SPC) and associated tools.
  • Active Q Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a Q Clearance.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by applicable export control regulations.
  • Must be able to work in controlled and secure environments as required.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move equipment or fixtures associated with metrology setups, as applicable.

Job Type: Full-Time Salary

Salary range: 81,080 - 141,650
