Job description

Job Summary

This position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Metrology Laboratory under the general supervision of the Lab Services Group Leader. The Metrology Lab Technician will perform various dimensional measurements utilizing the CMM, contour measurement system and other laboratory equipment to support component and assembled driveshaft dimensional layouts and ensure conformance with applicable requirements. The Metrology Laboratory Technician will work with limited guidance from the Metrology Laboratory Specialist.

Essential Functions
  • Assist in maintaining the safety standards for all in assigned work area.
  • Utilize CMM, height gauge and contour measurement system to perform complex dimensional measurements on components, sub-assemblies and assemblies to ensure compliance with applicable requirements
  • Utilize micrometers, calipers, torque wrenches, plug gauges, ring gauges and other common handheld gauges to ensure sample compliance applicable requirements
  • Read and interpret drawings and technical specifications to identify measurement needs and methods and determine applicable requirements
  • Assist Metrology Laboratory Specialist in the development of complex measurement programs for CMM and contour measurement system to ensure deadlines are met and increase the laboratory capacity
  • Support the Gauge laboratory by participating in MSA studies, performing gauge calibrations and operating Engage as necessary to minimize manufacturing downtime and improve gauge laboratory capacity
  • Support the Supplier Quality department by performing incoming inspection on urgent (hot) incoming parts to minimize overtime and manufacturing downtime
  • Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as needed to ensure proper operation and minimize laboratory downtime
  • Prepare technical test reports to effectively communicate test results to the requestor
  • Perform laboratory housekeeping activities to ensure compliance with 5S requirements
  • All employees are responsible for having an awareness and understanding of IFA’s commitment to ISO 16949
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Associate’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent technical experience and training
Experience
  • 0 – 2 years’ experience in metrology testing & analysis
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in automotive manufacturing environment
  • Previous metrology laboratory experience preferred
Specific Skills
  • Basic knowledge of metrology laboratory equipment including CMM, contour measurement system and height gauge
  • Basic knowledge of metrology measurement methods and practices
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T & ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Basic knowledge of measurement uncertainty and MSA
  • Basic knowledge of driveshaft components
  • Basic knowledge of metric and English units of measure
  • Basic knowledge of computer and software operation, including MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Understanding of Enterprise Resource Systems preferred (ie. SAP)
  • Basic knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 17025
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate and work with cross-functional teams
  • Apply existing knowledge of work processes and procedures in analyzing data and determining solutions and/or actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize and carry out work activities while supporting internal and external customers.
  • Understanding of IRNA Quality Management System (QMS) as applicable to assign area of responsibility.
  • Understand the relevance and importance of their activities and how they contribute to achieving quality objectives (UNIVERSAL per IATF 16949).
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to walk/move about a 500,000 sq ft manufacturing facility: 100% of the time
  • Must be able to stand/walk/move about specific work area: 90% of the time
  • Must be able to bend/reach/twist/stoop: 70% of the time
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs on a frequent basis: 40% of the time
  • Must be able to sit at a work station: 50% of the time
  • Must be able to work and operate a computer terminal: 80% of the time
  • Vision is required to analyze and process work; and to work on computer terminal/machine centers, etc.
  • Hearing is essential for safety reasons; and to communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, suppliers and customers via conversation, group meetings, and/or phone conferences.
  • Must be able to work any shift as required including overtime as needed
