Job description

Metrology Engineer – Reliability & Maintenance Optimization

Project-based / Consulting

EFOR is looking for a Metrology Engineer to join a major Reliability, Maintenance, Calibration & Instrumentation improvement program at a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing site in Pennsylvania.

This is not a traditional calibration execution role.

We are looking for an engineer who can challenge the status quo, identify inefficiencies, and help transform the site's approach to metrology and calibration.

What you’ll do
  • Review current calibration strategies, processes, and standards
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and optimize calibration activities
  • Challenge existing ways of working and help redesign calibration processes & governance
  • Analyze calibration intervals, tolerances, instrument criticality, failures, and OOT events
  • Support the implementation of risk-based calibration strategies
  • Optimize calibration plans, preventive maintenance, job plans, and instrument master data
  • Drive Continuous Improvement initiatives while maintaining GMP compliance and equipment reliability
  • Support root cause analysis, investigations, deviations, and CAPAs
  • Work closely with Reliability, Maintenance, Engineering, Instrumentation, Quality, Operations, and CMMS teams
  • Support instrument lifecycle, obsolescence, and replacement strategies
  • Ensure calibration documentation and technical rationale are GMP-compliant and inspection-ready
What we're looking for

We are looking for a Metrology / Calibration / Instrumentation Engineer with experience in a regulated manufacturing environment and, most importantly, a strong Continuous Improvement mindset.

You should be someone who:
  • Questions existing practices rather than simply following them
  • Identifies gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Uses data and technical knowledge to make recommendations
  • Connects metrology, reliability, maintenance, compliance, and CMMS data
  • Translates technical analysis into practical improvements
  • Works effectively with both technical teams and site leadership
Required experience
  • Experience in Metrology, Calibration, Instrumentation, or Maintenance Engineering
  • Experience in a GMP pharmaceutical, biotech, vaccine, or other regulated manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of process instrumentation: temperature, pressure, flow, level, weighing, analytical, and utility instruments
  • Experience analyzing calibration history, failures, OOT events, and instrument performance
  • Familiarity with CMMS / EAM or calibration management systems
  • Understanding of GMP, change control, deviation management, and data integrity
Nice to have
  • Experience with SAP PM, Maximo, Blue Mountain RAM, ProCal, Beamex, Kneat, or similar systems is a plus.
  • Experience with risk-based calibration, calibration interval optimization, reliability-centered maintenance, or instrument lifecycle management is highly valued.
Why this role?

This is a great opportunity for an engineer who wants to go beyond day-to-day calibration execution and have a real impact on how a pharmaceutical site's metrology and instrumentation program operates.

If you enjoy problem-solving, challenging existing processes, working cross-functionally, and driving meaningful technical improvements, we'd love to hear from you.
