Job summary

BMW Manufacturing Co., LLC in Upstate South Carolina seeks a metrology specialist to deliver precise measurement data and support root cause analysis. You will determine measurement methods, analyze data, and collaborate on solutions for vehicle and process evaluations using CMM, optical systems, and 3D scanning.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in tactile/optical metrology, CAD (CATIA), and metrology software.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Engineering or related technical discipline OR AA/AS in a technical field with 2 years of experience.
• 2+ years of tactile and/or optical metrology equipment experience in manufacturing.
• 1+ years reading blueprints, drawings, or measurement plans.
• 1+ years of CAD experience (CATIA preferred).
• 1+ years of metrology software experience (Polyworks, Calypso, Zeiss Inspect).
• 3+ years of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Access).
• 2+ years knowledge of Body, Assembly, Quality, or Battery processes (preferred).
• 2+ years of problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Delivers accurate measurement data to the customer within established time requirements.
• Determines the necessary setup and measurement method for investigations.
• Analyzes data and provides accurate data to support root cause analysis.
• Collaborates on metrology solutions for single part measurements and vehicle-level evaluations.
• Supports testing equipment standards (CMM, Laser Tracking, 3D Scanning).
• Executes measurement plans using relevant software/equipment.
• Collaborates with planning, maintenance, calibration, and operation of equipment.
• Represents metrology results for Plant Spartanburg on launch teams.
• Collaborates with PMP, 8D, and cross-functional teams; benchmarks with BMW plants.
• Understands VPS principles and Standard Work; Problem Solving.
• Adheres to 5S and Safety Standards; performs other duties as assigned.
