Job description

Metrics LLC is seeking a highly skilled Senior User Experience (UX) Designer as we compete for a contract with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This opportunity involves leading user-centered design initiatives for innovative technology solutions, supporting the USPTO’s mission to modernize business processes and enhance accessibility. This role is instrumental in shaping engaging, intuitive, and compliant user experiences that will drive adoption and satisfaction across diverse audiences. The position is primarily remote, providing the flexibility to work securely from approved locations with company-issued equipment and credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and execution of user research to identify and prioritize stakeholder and end-user needs.
  • Design and facilitate focus groups and usability tests to gather actionable feedback.
  • Develop and implement information architecture strategies for new and existing applications and websites.
  • Create low-fidelity wireframes, mockups, and high-fidelity interactive prototypes to support development teams.
  • Define, implement, and report on usability and customer experience metrics for iterative product improvements.
  • Ensure all designs and assets comply with federal accessibility standards (e.g., Section 508) and USPTO visual identity guidelines.
  • Build and maintain design systems and reusable UI component libraries to drive efficiency and consistency.
  • Review development output for adherence to user experience best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Present research findings, design recommendations, and usability results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Stay abreast of emerging design trends, tools, and methods, advocating for best practices in human-centered design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience conducting user research, usability testing, and stakeholder engagement for complex digital products.
  • Demonstrated expertise creating wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and managing design systems.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility standards (such as Section 508) and usability best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a design-related discipline.
  • Experience designing user experiences for federal agencies or highly regulated industries.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
  • Familiarity with agile development environments and cross-functional team collaboration.
