Job summary

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is seeking a Meter Technician I to install meters and regulators, perform meter changes, respond to gas odor complaints, and verify safety on customer premises. This entry-level role requires mechanical/industrial training or experience, a high school diploma, and a valid driver's license.

You'll work outside with minimal office time, using gas detection equipment and reading diagrams, while maintaining safety and accuracy in work orders.

Qualifications

• Entry level position with mechanical/industrial training and/or experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles.
• Knowledge of NFPA54.
• Skilled in the safe operation of hand tools, working with diagnostic tools.
• Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to read, manuals, code and parts diagrams.
• Ability to communicate with various levels of employees and customers.
• Ability to identify abnormal operating conditions and complete work orders accurately.

Responsibilities

• Installs new meters and regulators.
• Performs meter changes for customers.
• Responds to and investigates gas odor complaints and gas leaks.
• Utilizes and maintains gas detection equipment.
• Verifies customer equipment is safe and complies to applicable codes.
• Processes disconnection of service for non-payment.
• Installs remote read devices on meters.
