Qualifications
  • Knowledge and Skills: Ability to meet job knowledge and skill requirements will be determined by company interviews and passing the EEI Technician Occupations Selection System (TECH) test. Must have knowledge of electricity and electronics normally acquired by taking a two-year course at an acceptable technical school, and/or related work experience. Must be able to safely and satisfactorily perform work assignments of lower classifications, pass an oral and written examination to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Safety: Ability to work safely, follow safety rules and regulations, and meet first-aid requirement.
  • Physical: Manual dexterity to operate handheld devices, accurately input information, adjust and calibrate meters and instruments, ability to do considerable walking or driving, ascend and descend steps, work in all weather conditions and navigate across rough terrain. Must possess ability to climb and work off ladders in close quarters. Ability to lift and carry more than 25 pounds and possess range of motion commensurate with installation and/or removal of meters and metering equipment. Must have vision corrected to 20-30 and pass color vision test.
  • Mental: Ability to report meter conditions and read data accurately, read and take appropriate action based upon reports and work orders, deal with customers, and the public in a professional and courteous manner, work with energized meters and the ability to appropriately deal with potentially dangerous animals. Must demonstrate individual initiative, ingenuity, and judgment in carrying out work assignments.
  • Clerical: Ability to communicate effectively and operate two-way radios, telephones, cellular phones and other communication devices. Ability to operate computers, tablets and associated software, and write legibly to prepare and maintain accurate records, reports and job briefings
  • Work Characteristics: Meet company standards in regard to physical fitness, personal conduct and appearance, attendance, work performance, safety practices, and supervision required.
  • Special: Possess a Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator's license and be able to safely operate motor vehicles.
Responsibilities
  • Actively participating in and promoting the FE Safety Philosophy, working safely to advance the FE Safety Vision.
  • Adhere to all safety rules and guidelines established by the company and utilize all safety and personal protective equipment to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Work cooperatively with internal/external team members and customers.
  • Keep work areas in a neat and orderly condition and properly clean up after completion of job.
  • Maintain test instruments, tools, and equipment in good operating condition.
  • Operate power tools and equipment while following applicable safety precautions.
  • Attend training programs as assigned.
  • Operate company motor vehicles in a safe manner, and follow all applicable traffic laws.And, monitor vehicle to ensure routine maintenance with the requirement to report any issues.
  • Perform the proper “Socket Safety Check” procedures for each meter form type, and troubleshoot failures.
  • Document and inform supervision of adverse safety conditions regarding meters, meter sockets, electric services and lines.
  • Use field computer and associated software to accurately complete all Meter Services work types.And field create work orders when necessary.
  • Demonstrate effective knowledge of all applicable manuals, and manufacturers' parts lists.
  • Instruct and/or train other employee in the performance of any duties which you're qualified.
  • Assist higher-rated employees with the installation, removal, replacement, inspection, testing and repair of meters, instruments and related equipment and circuits.
  • Investigate diversion, tampering, mixed meters, and other service/meter irregularities and take necessary action to complete the work order and/or forms.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with computer, tablet, phones and other communication devices.
  • Assist in maintaining proper metering inventory levels and distribution/return of metering material and equipment.
  • Disconnect, reconnect, install, remove, read, and exchange: single-phase, self-contained meters.
  • Investigate smart meters for sensor, diagnostic, and tamper event errors. (Smart Meter)
  • Capture readings of smart meters, and Create smart meter data files. (Smart Meter)
  • Adjust smart meter internal clock, and register with host. (Smart Meter)
  • Reprogram smart meters for Bi-directional capabilities. (Smart Meter)
  • Conduct and complete work for special projects and surveys as necessary.
  • Perform Hazard Responder and other storm repair duties as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
