Job summary

City of Bartow, FL is seeking an entry-level Apprentice Meter Worker to support installation, maintenance and repair of metering facilities. The role offers progression through a four-year apprentice program to become a Journeyman Meter Worker, under supervision of the Meter Supervisor.

The position involves learning PPE usage, meter materials and tools, basic construction methods, and daily documentation. It requires a Florida driver’s license, flexibility for shifts, and emergency availability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• This position is Mission Critical during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Learn to use PPE and safety procedures in the apprentice track.
• Learn materials and tools used in the apprentice track and proper care.
• Assist Journeyman and other Apprentices in daily work.
• Test, calibrate, repair and install single phase electric meters.
• Maintain records of test results and meter locations.
• Respond to emergency situations within 60 minutes.
