Job summary

KTUU-TV/Gray Media in Anchorage seeks a knowledgeable forecaster to join the First Alert meteorology team. You will deliver on-air weather casts, write digital weather stories, and create multimedia weather content for digital platforms.

The shift covers weekend evenings and several weather/science segments weekly; duties include analyzing data, producing live weather shots, and coordinating with the Chief Meteorologist and producers while engaging audiences through social media.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or related field.
• Experience in broadcast and multimedia news content generation.
• On-air reporting/anchoring experience (or equivalent).
• Ability to write for broadcast news and digital platforms.
• Ability to shoot and edit video.
• Understanding of principal journalistic ethics.
• Capability to carry and utilize broadcast camera equipment in the field (25 lbs.).
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Analyze weather data and prepare detailed and engaging weather forecasts.
• Generate creative and engaging, content-driven live shots.
• Familiarity with the WSI weather system and software is a plus.
• Drive long-form severe weather/event coverage solo or in a team setting.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable on air and able to break down complex weather situations into easy-to-understand broadcast and online weathercasts, as well as provide written stories and multimedia weather content for digital platforms. The shift involves weekend evenings as well as 2-3 days of reporting on weather/science/environment related stories each week.

Duties/Responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

• Analyze weather data and prepare detailed and engaging weather forecasts
• Generate creative and engaging, content-driven live shots
• Familiarity with the WSI weather system and software is a plus
• Ability to drive long-form severe weather/event coverage solo or in a team setting both in the studio and in the field
• Ability to multi-task, handle breaking news and breaking weather, and adapt to rapidly changing events
• Cover other meteorologists' shifts as assigned, as well as flexibility to cover shifts during severe weather or other breaking news events
• Post daily stories to our digital platforms and social media, including online weather discussions to explain complex weather phenomena in an easy-to-understand format
• Be actively involved on the station's social media platforms and responsive to viewer inquiries
• Represent Alaska's News Source at community and station-sponsored events, including school presentations and station tours
• Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news management, and newscast producers
• As a reporter, you are responsible for shooting, writing, and editing stories for newscasts and our digital platforms
