Job summary

WPEC is seeking a Meteorologist to join our morning news team. The Meteorologist will present weather forecasts during the weekend morning newscasts and work three days a week on the morning show, providing accurate and engaging weather coverage on air and across our digital platforms.

The role includes forecasting, producing and presenting weather casts, issuing warnings, creating graphics, reporting live during events, and engaging audiences on social media.

Qualifications

• Requires a weather-focused degree or equivalent experience.
• Proven ability to forecast and present weather clearly.
• Experience presenting weather on air preferred.

Responsibilities

• Forecast, produce and present clear, concise weather casts that tell a story.
• Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics/maps, and report live during weather events.
• Utilize social media during severe weather and write weather stories.
• Make public appearances on behalf of the station.
• Work with producers to determine relevant weather content for breaking and everyday situations.

The main day to day responsibilities of the role will include…

• Forecasting, Producing and Presenting clear and concise weather casts, which tell a story and connect with viewers
• Issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events
• Utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories
• Make public appearances on behalf of the station
• Work with producers to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations

What skills do you need to be successful in our role?

• Ability to demonstrate experience with active and visual live shots
• In Depth Knowledge of forecasting
• Ability to multitask while meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks
• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Minimum 3 years experience in weather presentation preferred
