WCBD News 2 is seeking a dynamic Meteorologist to deliver accurate forecasts across broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms. Learn from one of the country’s best Chief Meteorologists, Rob Fowler, while engaging with our Lowcountry audience in Charleston, SC.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with on-air presence, capable of handling severe weather and working with a collaborative newsroom team. New grads encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Baron experience a plus.
  • Minimum two years’ experience preferred in weather reporting or anchoring.
  • Superior on-air presence.
  • Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
  • Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and other office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
  • Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, be able to work extended hours as needed, including various shifts at times.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Produces and presents weather reports for all platforms, including streaming.
  • Ensures that all weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Writes and delivers weather stories in a clear, engaging, and easy to understand manner.
  • Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating weather programming and other content, including creating weather graphics and digital content that enhances storytelling and audience understanding.
  • Responds to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
  • Works closely with the Weather and digital content team to ensure users receive timely weather related news throughout the day, including vertical video.
  • Produces and publishes weather related content for counton2.com, WCBD+, social media channels, and other digital platforms.
  • Produce and host live streams for severe weather coverage and weather focused programming.
  • Participates in promotional activities including public appearances, community events, school visits, and other projects and duties as assigned.
  • Engages with viewers through social media and other digital platforms, fostering audience interaction and community trust.

WCBD TV is an NBC Affiliate Station owned by Nexstar Media Inc. We are located in the beautiful Lowcountry area of Charleston, SC. Charleston is known for its warm weather, friendly people, charming downtown, outstanding food, beautiful beaches, and so much history. WCBD News 2 is looking for a dynamic and engaging Meteorologist who can deliver accurate forecasts and compelling weather coverage across broadcast, digital, social, and streaming platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, confident on-air during severe weather situations, and passionate about connecting with audiences wherever they consume content. We are considering new graduates with the necessary degree, skills, aptitude and motivation! You would be learning from and working with one of the absolute best Chief Meteorologists in the country, Rob Fowler. Rob has been with us for 39 years, and is extremely knowledgeable, kind and very well respected in our great community.
