Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan, Morenci, AZ, seeks a Metallurgist I to provide technical support in Metallurgical testing and analyses at the Morenci operation, a long-running open-pit copper complex. You will participate in studies, prepare reports, and help implement safe, compliant processes on site.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related Engineering discipline and strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related Engineering discipline.
• Knowledge of the basic principles and methods used in metallurgical and processing analyses.
• Ability to research and analyze information to draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, assists in providing technical support and advice in Metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.
• Assists in Metallurgical studies and conducting analyses
• Prepares standard reports on Metallurgical or process issues and assists in recommending appropriate action to resolve or correct issues
• Assists in reviewing new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols
• Assists in evaluating and administering contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
• Develops and maintains an understanding of applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations applicable to area of assignment
• Performs other duties as required
