Job summary

Timken is seeking a Metallurgical Technician to perform diversified inspection duties and a wide range of testing procedures on raw and in-process materials. You will interpret vendor certifications, prepare specimens, conduct hardness and distortion tests, and maintain meticulous records.

The role requires strict PPE usage and adherence to safety protocols. You will work with engineering and inspection teams to meet customer specifications, audit heat-treat cycles, and participate in training

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic mathematical and mechanical skills required.
• Basic computer interface skills required.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings.
• Commitment to PPE and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform raw and in-process material tests including interpretation of vendor materials certifications.
• Use bench tools such as sander, cutter, washes and immersions to prepare and test materials.
• Work from instructions, specifications, prints; determine results of tests by dial indicators, meters, gauges, and visual checks.
• Obtain samples or specimens of metals and other materials; mount samples for testing as required.
• Perform in-process metallurgical inspections and audit heat treat cycles.
• Interface with engineering and inspection areas regarding testing requirements.
• Perform hardness, distortion, and other tests.
• Conduct metallurgical calibrations and use special equipment and processes.
• Record data on designated forms; maintain records.
• Assist in training employees as required.
• Move materials as directed and report issues promptly.
• Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, or defective materials.
