The primary responsibilities of the Metallurgist/Polymer Specialist I are conducting analysis on materials using a variety of analytical and testing methodologies. Metallurgists and Polymer Specialists examine the structure, properties, and performance of materials using techniques including optical and electron microscopy and other laboratory instrumentation. The position supports failure analysis investigations and materials characterization projects involving metals, polymers, coatings, and related material systems. The Metallurgist/Polymer Specialist I is responsible for generating technical findings, interpreting data, and preparing clear and concise reports for customers.
Work is performed mostly in a lab setting. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift objects up to 55 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
