Ryerson in the United States is seeking a Shear Operator to cut and process metal as part of a registered apprenticeship onboarding. You will work closely with production teams to meet customer specifications and safety standards.

The role includes operating a shear, craning and moving material with a forklift or side loader, performing inspections, and final packaging per orders. Starting pay is $22.74 per hour, with experience-based increases.

Qualifications

• Skills-based assessment required: reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, problem-solving.
• Metals warehouse experience; knowledge of structural steel preferred.
• Ability to safely operate cranes with minimal supervision.
• Ability to use measuring tools (tape measure, micrometer, caliper) and pneumatic hand tools.
• Must pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, mobility and lifting.
• Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Using a shear machine to cut & process metal
• Pulling and staging feedstock for production orders
• Finishing and inspecting product to meet customer expectations
• Final packaging of material per customer specification
• Work order confirmation on computer
• Operating an overhead crane to move material
• Operating a forklift or side loader to move material
